Karl and Godfried Steinschaden’s family has lived and farmed the land in Engabrunn for 6 generations. The family is dedicated to traditional practices and the farming is being converted to organic.

The harvest is done 100% by hand in small cases. Brunn practices traditional fermentation in small tanks in order to reflect the elegant characteristics of its vineyards. The winery has a very old historic subterranean cellar where their wines can mature in perfect conditions. Large neutral Slavonian Oak vats are used to prevent the wood from overpowering the wine. The optimal vineyard soils and climate produce high quality, elegant wines with unique flavors.

Their Ried Stein vineyard is listed as one of only 52 “Erste Lage” vineyards in Austria, recognized for their unique and exceptional terroir. The winery also owns the oldest traditional basket press in this part of Europe, dating back to 1564 A.D. This Renaissance era basket press has never left the village. Originally used by the Benedictine Abbey of Göttweig, which had vineyards in Engabrunn.

Estate-grown 100% Blauer Zweigelt is hand-harvested in small batches. Bright pink in color and lively in the glass. Crisp with notes of strawberry and raspberry on the palate, and lovely notes of lilies on the nose.

TASTING NOTES: Violet reddish in color with soft tannins. A spicy nose with nuances of pepper. Mature and full-bodied mouth that delivers notes of morello cherry.
